Scientists have found out some things about the cave lion that is now extinct. They found out that the cave lion was really different from the lions that’re alive today. A new study that was published in Cell looked at the DNA of cave lions and found out that they came from a special group that split from modern lions more than one million years ago.

The people who did the study were from the Center for Palaeogenetics in Sweden. They worked with other researchers from different countries. They looked at the DNA of cave lions from Eurasia and North America and they were able to figure out the history of the cave lion.

What they found out is not about the cave lion but also about how the weather changing affected how the cave lions and the modern lions interacted with each other over thousands of years.
