Every human cell has a sugar coating around it known as the glycocalyx. This sugar coating is very important because it helps cells talk to their surroundings. Scientists have always thought that the glycocalyx tells us a lot about what’s going on inside the cell but it is very hard to study.

Now some researchers at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light have found a way to look at these sugar structures very closely. Changing Signals
